Hybrid Program

Grades K-12
Hybrid blends the flexibility of online learning with the engagement of in-person experiences. Designed for students K-12, our hybrid model fosters academic success, social growth, and personal confidence by combining the strengths of both worlds in a supportive community.

On-Campus & Online Kindergarten through Grade 12

Beginning in 1997, CVA pioneered an educational approach that, to our knowledge, remains unique in the United States: students spend 3 days in classes on campus and 2 days online each week, generally participating from home or our Study Center. This dynamic fusion of on-campus and online learning helps students develop collaborative skills, organizational skills, time management techniques and self-motivation. Students also learn to manage their studies using technology tools at home. During online days, a Study Center is available on campus to all students. Students can come to Study Center for all or part of the day to get support from our staff or just for a quiet place to work on their own.

The Hybrid program appeals to students and families who want the flexibility of an online program, the group interaction of an on-campus learning environment, and the personal attention that a small school can offer.

Curriculum

Students come to us for a small school experience and, in many cases, because they want a place they can be, as one parent put it, “comfortable in their own skin.” While we maintain and enforce behavior expectations much like many other schools, we recognize that every student expresses themselves in different ways, and we welcome that. As a result, CVA has an environment where differences, quirks and unique characteristics are respected and enjoyed.

Students and parents comment frequently on the genuine, relaxed, respectful nature of the school. Behavior issues are rare, and students and staff all work hard to keep it that way. Read and watch student, parent and staff testimonials.

Our daughter has grown emotionally and academically --making the A and B honor rolls many times; taking the bus all on her own and advocating zealously for her own needs; and, learning to accept responsibility and consequences. She was not able to go on field trips at her prior school and went to Space Camp in another state with CVA! She has made amazing, huge strides.

My son was diagnosed with very high functioning autism at the age of 11 after many years of knowing he struggled to self-regulate but he was doing very well academically. After entering a traditional middle school, we noticed he became increasingly anxious about managing the loud noise at school, not being able to focus, fast paced social interactions, and general over stimulation by the end of the day. We also noticed the "boom" of socializing happening for his peers he followed from elementary school, but he did not experience that increase in social independence. We looked at many options for schools and decided to shift to CVA. The transition was seamless, the staff were incredibly warm and welcoming, and they seem to really understand him. The school is much smaller, the class sizes are smaller and the general stimulation level is much lower. He has time to connect with peers in a lower pressure environment, get more 1:1 time with his teachers, and be challenged on subjects that he excels in. He has a handful of friends at school and loves the independence of the fusion program. We live a few blocks away from the school so he comes home on Thursdays to do online school work while I work from home. He is able to connect with his teachers virtually if he needs special instruction. He is able to use extra time at home for building projects and mountain biking. The communication from his teachers has been excellent and the attention on his special needs related to autism has been great. I finally feel like I can take a deep breath and know he has found his people and his place for learning. Thank you to CVA and all the great people who make it possible!

My student developed math anxiety during 4th grade and fell behind. When he started 8th grade at CVA his math skills were 2 grade levels behind so he was placed in the ADSIS program to receive additional instruction in that area. After years of stress over math it was hard to believe that he could catch up. Within just a couple of months he was more relaxed about math and by the end of the year he was feeling confident and his math skills were greatly improved.

We haven’t had any major conflicts over schoolwork since he’s been at CVA, I honestly didn’t think it was possible.

My son feels safe and supported at CVA - something that was missing for him at our public school.

He has gained confidence in himself as a student, which he didn’t have at his previous school.
